Talk Me Down

It may not come as a big surprise to anyone reading this but my local pet store is like a home away from home for me. Some people have gyms or bars where they walk in and are greeted with an outcry equivalent to what Norm would experience on Cheers, but for me that special little place is the pet store... everyone who works there, from the cashiers to the managers, know me. They always say hi when I walk in and remember to ask about our cats (sometimes by name). I think at this point, my mugshot might actually be included in their orientation for new hires!

This particular store partnered up with our local humane society and always have a few cats available for adoption. My first stop when I walk in is always to visit these cats. I like to think that a friendly face and a few loving scratches might just help brighten their day.

Today, however, I got more than I bargained for. I walked up to see a big guy named 'Cody'. He's an older cat and is a fluffy, gray tabby. In other words, he'd fit right in with our herd!!!! Apparently his owner recently past away and that's when he and his sister went up for adoption, she was adopted out earlier this week. Cody stole my heart from the very first glance! I gave him some scratches and ohh-ed and ahhh-ed for a couple minutes, falling in love with him more and more every second. He was soooo so sweet, super friendly and very social. Every ounce of my being wanted to snatch this cat up and take him home with me today. I had to call Tim to talk me down. I told him if he couldn't list ten reasons we can't get another cat right there on the spot then I'd be coming home with a new friend today. Unfortunately he talked me off my ledge and listed eleven reasons.
